Diplomatic relations

• Portugal recognized the independence of Chile in August of 1821
• On February 28^th, 1879, in Santiago, a treaty of friendship, commerce and navigation was achieved
• On July 17^th, 1958, Portugal and Chile sign a commercial agreement in Lisbon
• On April 8^th, 1995, Portugal and Chile reach an agreement for the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments and the associated protocol

First diplomatic mission

• On November 26^th, 1912, Abel Acácio de Almeida Botelho, Plenipotentiary Minister in Buenos Aires, accredited as non-resident in Uruguay and Paraguay, also presented his credentials as non-resident in Santiago
• On September 13th, 1934, Plenipotentiary Minister Joaquim Pedroso presented his credentials as resident in the Santiago Legation
